As John prepared the way for the Lord Jesus, let us now pray that all God’s people may prepare the world to receive Jesus yet again, amidst the many needs of our times.

Lord, as John proclaimed the salvation of God, may we share in that salvation for the world. We pray for peace: in Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Israel and Palestine. Make us instruments of your peace so that all people come to know your saving love.

Lord hear us
Lord graciously hear us.

Lord, as John exhorted us to fairness we pray for Justice. We pray especially for the European Union at a time of change. Help us to make your agenda their agenda, and may their actions be inspired by wisdom and compassion.

Lord hear us
Lord graciously hear us.

Lord, as John spoke out against sin, may we share in his courage. Strengthen your church. We pray especially for David our Bishop, Patrick our Rector and for the Vestry and congregation here. Give us boldness to speak truth even when unwelcome, and to reveal the presence of Jesus to the world.

Lord hear us
Lord graciously hear us.

Lord, as John saw the Spirit descending so may the Spirit rest on your children. Touch with your healing Grace those who suffer in adversity. We pray for those who are ill, those who we love and those known to you alone... May we comfort all people.

Lord hear us
Lord graciously hear us.

Lord, as John announced the lamb of God to the world, may we share in his faith. We pray for those who have died and for those who mourn. May we look with surety to your all-embracing Kingdom

Lord hear us
Lord graciously hear us.

In silence let us bring our own prayers before our God.

Lord hear us
Lord graciously hear us.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for calling us to be your servants.
Help us to gladly respond to your call and to obey your will.
Make us ready for every demand you make upon our lives,
that we may serve you faithfully and show forth your love to the world;
through Jesus Christ our Lord
Amen
