Come, Holy Spirit.
O Holy Spirit, Breath of God, come again upon your world. Kindle a fire in the hearts of all your people, to burn with love and compassion for the world you have made.
Come, Holy Spirit, to the violent places. Bring peace and reconciliation to those in conflict, especially in Darfur and the Middle East. Give courage to the peacemakers, and strengthen those living in the fear of violence.
Where there is hatred and enmity
Come, Holy Spirit.
Come, Holy Spirit.
Come, Holy Spirit, to the scary places. Bring hope and courage to those who cannot see a way ahead, especially those suffering persecution in Zimbabwe. Give wisdom to leaders negotiating for an agreement on climate change. Give us strength to stand against injustice and self-centredness, and shed light on the truth.
Where there is fear and despair
Come, Holy Spirit.
Come, Holy Spirit.
Come, Holy Spirit, to the cold places. Bring awareness and compassion to those who have forgotten how to feel the suffering of others. Unite us to work together for the lonely, the fearful, and the neglected, and give us the insight to know how to help them.
Where there is apathy and indifference
Come, Holy Spirit.
Come, Holy Spirit.
Come, Holy Spirit, to the hurt places. Bring restoration and healing to those who are sick or broken in body, mind or spirit. Give strength to those who work to bring comfort and relief.
Where there is pain and suffering
Come, Holy Spirit.
Come, Holy Spirit.
Come, Holy Spirit, to the dark places. Bring peace and comfort to those who mourn the loss of loved ones, and lead those who have died into glory with Christ.
Where there is death and the fear of death
Come, Holy Spirit.
Come, Holy Spirit.
Come, Holy Spirit. Heal us, inspire us, restore us, empower us. O Holy Spirit, Breath of God, remind us again that we are God’s children and heirs with Christ. Breathe your life into us and make us able to follow where you lead us, in the name of Christ our Lord.
Amen.
